We are excited to announce that the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery Alumni Symposium and the 23rd Congress of the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society (MEDISS) will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, 2020, in the Cullen Auditorium at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
The joint symposia will begin at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 1, with sessions highlighting the clinical, educational, and research accomplishments of the department. The day will conclude with an informal poster reception and dinner in the Michael E. DeBakey Library and Museum and adjacent foyer. At 7:00 am on Saturday, May 2, the session will begin with the 8th Annual Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery Research Symposium, during which our residents, fellows, students, and non-faculty staff will present their scientific achievements from the current academic year. Our Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Craig Miller, a vascular surgeon and author of the recently released biography of Dr. DeBakey, “A Time for All Things: The Life of Michael E. DeBakey.” Following the Research Symposium and lunch, Dr. Matthew Wall, Jr., will deliver the MEDISS Presidential Address. This will be followed by a series of abstract presentations given by MEDISS members and then the presentation of the DeBakey Surgical Award. The event will conclude with a banquet at 7:30 pm.
